“Rumi and Sufism”
Community Led
The life, history, and thought of 13th century Persian mystic, Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Balkhi, known to us as Rumi, influences many Western spiritual thinkers to this day. This service will look at the essence of Sufism’s insights as experienced through Rumi’s divine love, wisdom, and the nature of both humanity and God.
“Inside a lover’s heart there is another world, and yet another.”
For this service, bring something you would like to share about Rumi.

“In the Belly of the Whale: Lent, Jonah and Meditation”
Karen Erickson
On February 22, Christians enter the season of Lent, a time of reflection and retreat. The Bible offers many stories of containment before a new beginning, from Noah’s Ark to Jonah, from John and Jesus in the womb or in the wilderness to the angel in the tomb. Many religious traditions urge followers to withdraw at times from the rush of life, to meditate, to wait. When do we need to draw back, and what do we learn there? How does a practice of meditation merge with being open to the needs of the world?
